Previous assignment was the senior researcher and second officer of the research station Gamma-13 near the Gamma Quadrant end of the Bajoran wormhole. The station's goal was to comprehend how the wormhole was stabilized and discover how to create a stable artificial wormhole. Attempts were abandoned after the research station was lost after the micro-wormhole being tested suddenly imploded into a subspace tear, ripping the station apart. Only six of the thirty-four researchers survived the accident. Due to heroics during the accident on the research station, Turak Katase was promoted to the rank of Captain and given command of the USS Vandread.
