Personal/Background info: I've been an avid Star Trek fan for many years, I'm currently attending college classes, and my aim to become a writer (hopefully I will get to write scifi). I have had a lot of experience in other MMO's. My first foray into the MMO world was Acheron's Call 2, since then I have played a little of this and that (including Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Age of Conan, Eve (which I beta tested), Star War Galaxies (for about as long as it took for the free trial to wear off). That’s all I can recall right now, but yeah I've been around the block a bit. I have followed STO’s development closely since Perpetual first announced their version, and I have been following Cryptic’s version with an ever watchful eye.

- Gameplay Data -
Character Name: Khurat
Race: Cardassian
Sex: Male
Age: 34 Earth Years
Ship Details: USS Franklin/ Akira Class/ NCC-1776/ Specialization in Intelligence & Tactics
Bio: Background information on Khurat is sketchy prior to his arrival in Federation space, but there are some solid facts known from that part of his history. It is known that Khurat was born in Lakarian City on Cardassia. It is also known that Khurat was somehow involved in the conflict between the Federation and the Cardassian Union, however his precise involvement is not known at this time. Some speculate that he was a Gul in the Cardassian military, while others insist that he was a spy in the Obisidian Order. Either way during his time in the war between the Federation and Cardassia he is rumored to have done some rather “distasteful things” (as he would say) that ultimately led to his eventual reversal of politics. After the war between the Federation and Cardassia Kuhrat began to display what the Central Command considered “disturbing political choices.” There is video evidence of Khurat being arrested by Cardassian officials on Cardassia during a demonstration, in the video Khurat can be heard quoting Earth’s Benjamin Franklin shouting, “Any nation that is willing to exchange a little liberty for a little security will deserve neither and lose both.”

Details of Khurat’s escape from prison are sketchy, but it is known that several trained individuals were involved in his escape from both the planet and Cardassian space. Luckily during Khurat’s escape Starfleet’s Lt. Thomas Riker (Then Commander William Riker’s duplicate) was throwing the Cardassian border forces into disarray with his theft of the USS Defiant. This allowed Khurat and his accomplices to successfully smuggle Khurat out of Cardassian space without too much trouble. Khurat arrived in Federation space around stardate 48481.2, and made his way from Deep Space Nine, where several witnesses claim to have seen him and Elim Garak exchange words (though this has never been confirmed). Khurat then made his way to Risa where he appeared to spend time simply relaxing, although on stardate 49066.5, following the Klingons’ invasion of Cardassian space Khurat made his way to Earth and tendered his application for service in Starfleet.

Starfleet Officials were stunned, and obviously skeptical. Given Khurat’s spotty past there were many Admiral’s in Starfleet Command that were certain he was a spy for Cardassia. Khurat simply demanded to speak the Admiral in Starfleet Command that was his strongest opponent, alone. Khurat was placed behind two force fields and each of his limbs was individually bound to a chair that was bolted to the steal floor, but he was allowed to speak with the Admiral. Khurat explained to the Admiral that he was a man who looked at the overall situation, analyzed the different factions, viewpoints, forces, and options and decided on the only course of action that he thought was most likely to succeed. He explained that the coming Dominion conflict could only be successfully resolved by the Federation. Cardassia was too distracted by the prospect of power to be had, and was focused merely on means of gaining that power, no matter the cost. The Romulans were reacting like typical Romulans, they sat back and watched while everything started to unfold, waiting and watching for opportunities to arise. The Klingons…well they were too busy invading Cardassian space and rattling the sabre, playing right into the hands of the Dominion. The Federation was the best bet for the quadrant, and he continued to explain that there were plenty of opportunities for the Federation in the wake of this conflict, if they were willing to take the initiative.

Swayed by Khurat’s argument the Admiral decided to change his opinion of the potential recruit and recommend to the Federation Council that Khurat be given probationary commission and be given a test of loyalty, which was not to be revealed to Khurat. Khurat was moved during the night while he slept via transporter into a holodeck, he awoke, unbeknownst of his circumstances, to news that the Klingons had refocused on invading Cardassia, and this time things were going even worse than before. As Khurat questioned his holographic commanders he was told that the Federation was not engaging the Klingons directly at the time but it was pursing all other means necessary to restore the peace. Khurat pressed his holographic superiors to take action to no avail, and as a part of the program an opportunity presented itself for Khurat to cooperate with a corrupt over-zealous Admiral and steal a starship, they would then proceed to Cardassian space and force a confrontation between the Federation and the Klingons (for whom it was apparent Khurat had no great love). Khurat was given the choice of either going along with the Admiral or being jailed as a spy. Khurat chose not to go along with the Admiral’s plan, and jailed (in the holodeck) for a period of 62 days before Starfleet officials were convinced that his intentions were genuine. Further Vice Admiral Toddman of Starfleet Security made it a point to mention that his Khurat’s devotion was quite commendable. When asked why he didn’t go along with the Admiral’s ploy he said that starting a war between the Federation and the Klingon’s was not the way to save the quadrant from the Dominion, and that to do so would only serve to fuel the blood lust of the Klingon’s and intensify fighting in Cardassian space, resulting in more dead Cardassians not less.

After this display from Khurat Starfleet Command received approval from the Federation Council to issue a commission and send Khurat to Starfleet Academy for accelerated training. Khurat graduated Starfleet Academy with extremely high marks; his professors noted his extreme aptitude for intelligence work as well as small-unit and starship combat tactics. Khurat also shows great promise as a battlefield strategist, a career soldier through and through.

- Stardate 49962.4: Khurat is promoted to Ensign and given a spot on the USS Thunderchild as first hand of the ships Security Chief, Lt. Reynald. (The Thunderchild was assigned to advanced recon in the Gamma Quadrant at the time)
- Stardate 50416.2: Lt. Reynald recommends Khurat for promotion to Lt. JG and be appointed to a new position as the ship’s Intelligence officer. The Captain of the Thunderchild agrees and Khurat is promoted.
- Stardate 50924.5: The Thunderchild is recalled from reconnaissance operations after the several Dominion ships enter the Alpha Quadrant and head for Cardassia. Khurat is promoted to Lt. for his outstanding service in the Gamma Quadrant. (it is around this time that it is rumored Khurat was approached by a representative of Section 31 and supposedly recruited into the intelligence organization.)
- ...To be continued

P.S. I'd like an intelligence posting or tactical operations posting, the attributes I describe in the story above that I whipped up are pretty true to who I am, I wanted to play a Cardassian because I strongly identify with their enigmatic and largely clandestine nature. I'm pretty good at turning a small outnumbered force into a strong defensive one capable of prolonged combat, which I generally use to affect attrition upon my enemy until they are weak enough to be toppled.

Welcome to the fleet. A very thorough background and lead in. Of course we don't have an intelligence corps but I am sure we can find a post worthy of your aptitudes.
